RAW FEEDING 101

A Leaner Body and More Energy to Keep Your Dog Moving.

An estimated 60 percent of U.S. dogs are overweight or obese. Most of that traces back to what's in the bowl. Dogs on a raw diet tend to lean out, hold a healthier body condition, and show steadier, more useful energy. No sugar spikes, no afternoon crash, no "counter surfing" problem.

Why Kibble-Fed Dogs Struggle to Stay Lean

Kibble is designed to be high sugar-dense and shelf-stable. That's two things dogs don't need. The carb load, especially
from grain and legume binders, spikes blood sugar and signals the body to store fat. The feeding guidelines on most kibble bags assume a sedentary, overweight baseline.

The energy pattern is similar. Carbs produce short, unstable bursts of energy followed by crashes, the same way they do in people. What looks like a calm, tired dog is often a dog running
on spikes and dips all day. Could this be driving the epidemic of diabetes in pets?

What Raw Feeding Actually Does

Raw feeding supports a leaner body and steadier energy through three mechanisms.

  1. Protein and fat as primary fuel

Dogs are built to run on protein and fat, not carbohydrates. Animal fat delivers dense, steady energy without the insulin rollercoaster. Raw feeding matches the fuel source to the biology.

  2. Better satiety on smaller portions

Raw food is protein calorie-dense and nutritionally complete, which means smaller portions keep your dog satisfied. No constant hungry begging. No bowl-staring an hour after breakfast. (Well our pups can’t get enough of pure raw food!)

  3. Healthier body composition

On raw, dogs tend to build and hold more muscle while carrying less fat. That's not just aesthetics. Lean muscle supports joints, reduces strain, and extends active years.

  4. No More Chronic Dehydration

Raw and fresh foods typically contain 65–80% moisture, while most kibble contains only about 8–12% moisture. Fresh and raw diets naturally provide significant moisture through the food itself, helping support hydration and urinary health.

What to Expect, and When

Weight shifts take longer than the other benefits. Energy usually shifts first.

  • WEEKS 1–4

    Energy stabilizes

Most families notice calmer, steadier energy first. Less frantic scavenging, fewer afternoon crashes, more engagement during walks and play.

  • MONTHS 2–4

    Weight and body contour shifts

Weight loss starts showing if your dog was heavy. Waistline and tuck become visible again. Muscle tone firms up, especially in the shoulders and back end.

  • MONTHS 4–6

    New baseline

For dogs who needed to lose weight, most of it is off by now. For dogs already at a good weight, the difference is in muscle definition and stamina.
